The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held on Monday, January 22nd, 2018, at 6:30 PM in the board meeting room. President Beth Watson called the meeting to order. Other board members present Amanda Donovan, Dawn Whalen, Jeremi Thompson, and Todd Wilmarth. Jerry Henn, Supt., Josh Adams, HS Prin., Brad Burkdoll, HS/MS AD, Randy Fox, MS Prin., Sherry Bousman, Board Clerk. Kevin Jones arrived at 6:42pm and Shane Pruitt arrived at 7:00pm.

2.ADOPT AGENDA Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded to add 7.H. Superintendent Search motion carried 5-0 to adopt the agenda

3. PUBLIC COMMENT N.A.

4. STUDENT PRESENTATION Josh Adams presented Hailey Waymire’s FACS class made dinner for Board Appreciation month.

5.APPROVE CONSENT AGENDA Dawn Whalen moved, Todd Wilmarth seconded and motion carried 5-0 to approve the consent agenda with the exception of approval of special meeting minutes and pulling 5.b. financials

5.B. MONTHLY BILLS AND FINANCIALS Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded and motion carried 4-1 to approve 5.b. monthly bills and financials. Yays – Donovan, Watson, Whalen, Thompson. Todd Wilmarth abstained until amended budget is republished.

7.A. NEGOTIATIONS MEMBER Dawn Whalen moved, Amanda Donovan seconded and motion carried 5-0 to approve the appointment of Jeremi Thompson as a member of the negotiations team.

7.B. SPECIAL BOARD MEETING Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded and motion carried 5-0 to approve a special board meeting on February 7th, 2018 with executive session and to set candidate interview dates and times.

7.B. SPECIAL BOARD MEETING Dawn Whalen moved, Beth Watson seconded and motion carried 5-0 to appoint Sue Wright and/or Alicia Jones as Deputy Clerks for the week of the superintendent candidate interviews.

7.C. BID FOR CONTROLS Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded and motion carried 5-1 to approve requesting bids for install of new controls. Yays – Donovan, Watson, Whalen, Thompson, Wilmarth. Kevin Jones abstained.

7.D. BIDS FOR TECHNOLOGY Beth Watson moved, Kevin Jones seconded and motion carried 7-0 to approve IT collecting bids for 200 Chromebooks, 8 Chromebook Carts, 7 Short Throw Projectors, 1 Short Throw Projector with Finger, and tablets for Kindergarten and First Grades.

7.E. CONSULTANT FOR HVAC The board is requesting two more quotes from engineering firms.

7.F. POLICIES Dawn Whalen moved, Todd Wilmarth seconded and motion carried 7-0 to approve BCBK policy.

7.G. CURRICULUM PRESENTATION Mr. Fox reviewed present curriculum and presented information for future curriculum.

7.H. SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH The board appointed Josh Adams as Chair to introduce the superintendent candidate’s to the district and community. The stakeholder group will be comprised of certified, classified, community patrons, and students.

8. EXECUTIVE SESSION

8.B. NEGOTIATIONS Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded and motion carried 7-0 to go into executive session to discuss the Master Collective Bargaining Agreement pursuant to the exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA, and that we return to open session in this room at 9:10pm. Mr. Henn will be in attendance.

8.B. Mr. Henn will be in attendance.

9.A. RESIGNATIONS Dawn Whalen moved, Jeremi Thompson seconded and motion carried 7-0 to approve the following resignation: Jodi Hylton – MS Cheer Coach

9.B. CONTRACTS TO OFFER Dawn Whalen moved, Todd Wilmarth seconded and motion carried 5-2 Yays – Pruitt, Donovan, Whalen Thompson, Wilmarth – Nays – Watson and Jones to approve Tina Redlinger as the HS Science teacher for the 2nd semester of the 2017-2018 school year.
