State Assessment Testing Information

If you have a child in grades 3-8 or high school, you know that each spring brings with it “Testing Time”. Well, that time is quickly approaching once again for our students to take the required state assessments for various grade levels in reading and math and, beginning this year, in science and social studies.
The testing dates are:
Elementary Kansas State Assessment Testing Schedule:
March 3-7: 3rd Grade Reading
March 10-14: 5th Grade Reading
March 24-28: 4th Grade Reading
Mach 31-April 4: 4th Grade Math
April 7-11: 3rd Grade & 5th Grade Math
Middle School Kansas State Assessment Testing Schedule:
March 10-14: 8th Grade Reading
March 25-28: 7th Grade Reading
April 1-3: 6th Grade Reading & 8th Grade Math
April 8-10: 6th Grade Math & 7th Grade Math
April 15-18: 8th Grade Social Studies
April 22-24: 7th Grade Science
April 29-May 1: 6th Grade Social Studies
High School State Assessment Testing Schedule:
March 10-12: Math
To Be Announced: Science & Social Studies
All assessments will be taken on the computer, on-line. There is immediate feedback for both students and staff using this method. It is also less time-consuming with regards to dealing with the amount of paper a test assessment generates.
While state assessments have always been a part of the picture, they have taken on significant importance with the passage of the No Child Left Behind federal legislation and Adequate Yearly Progress. Schools across the state are judged SOLELY on progress on the state assessments. In a smaller school, if one or two students in any sub-category does poorly, the school does not make AYP for that year. ALL students are required to take the state assessments as no exceptions are granted.
