INCLEMENT WEATHER AND SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS
October 30, 2009
With
winter fast approaching, the thought of having a “snow day” can be
on students’ and parents’ minds. In most cases, the decision to
call school off is usually made after driving the roads,
conferencing with the County Road Department, and talking with
other area school superintendents. The decision to call off school
for the day is not a decision that is taken lightly.
When bad weather threatens the
safe operation of our buses and there is a need to cancel school
for the day, almost all area radio stations and television
channels, including 4, 5, 9, 13, 27, 41, and 62 carry USD #289
school closing information. Sometimes, when the call is made to
cancel school, the stations and/or channels do not always get the
information broadcast in a timely manner. This is regrettable, and
we will do everything that we can to be sure all parents are
notified in a timely manner. Parents can also call the school
district info line 883-2388 or visit the school district website.
If school is canceled due to inclement weather, it will be posted
on the web and on the information phone line.
