Facilities Planning Updates

The USD 289 Facilities Planning Committee has been hard at work!  This past fall I shared a Strategic and Facilities Planning Update.  The Facilities Planning Committee is comprised of  7 groups of stakeholders including students, staff, parents, community members, and board of education members.  The committee’s charge includes the following:    

  • Discuss and Define Facility System Adequacy, Suitability, and Sustainability

  • Determine and Define any Facility Improvement Needs

  • Prepare Recommendations and or Data as Charged by the Board

The Facilities Planning Committee met in December and the results of the committee work to date were presented to the USD 289 Board of Education in January and next steps were discussed.  The committee has begun prioritizing facility needs. Through board discussion, the next steps were identified and include getting some additional technical support which will allow the committee and board to learn the costs of the needs prioritized by the facilities committee.  Exploration of financing options for the committee and board to consider are also underway and part of the next steps as identified by the board. A special board meeting has been scheduled for February 10th, 2020, at 6:30pm in the Wellsville High School Library to review and approve and RFQ (technical assistance) and to hear an overview of financial information.  The committee and board will continue working together in the months ahead.      

The Facilities Planning process has been designed to allow all stakeholder groups to have a strong voice throughout the process.  It is essential that the wishes and desires of stakeholders are represented in this plan.
